Private Romance....(poem 1998)

This poem is a play on one of my favorite songs, "Cowboy Romance" by Natalie Merchant....
It is the story of how I met my wonderful husband!

It's a rainy night
Romance
Between a private and a fool
And a fool

A mistaken meet up
In a crude diner
Slow night in a tired town
He's hopeful and
She is too
And together they are two
Open souls

Got her held tight
In his arms
Both wondering what to do
Just a dance - that is
All it is
But they both feel the need
Feel the need

If you can
If you can
And if you can

"Would you look beyond the past ones
I'll take you with me
And together we will see
How love should be"

Got her held tight
In his arms
Both knowing it is right
"No man born can move me - that I swore
But private, if you do
I'll belong to you"

If you do
If you do
And if you do

"Will you take my heart this once
I'll go with you
And together we will see
How love should be"

As days stretch on they
Are trusting more and more
Discovering what love is for
They will say "I do"
Say "I do."

Additions to my artistic expressions!

Along with writing, I have also discovered I love to photograph objects, especially flowers. So I will share some of my photos here too!

Time....(poem 1996)

Time is of a fateful essence
In our lives we revolve around each day
To lose precious time means the failing
Of one's life.
And the waning hours
Pass with the loudness of each tick
Our hearts make.

Untitled....(poem 1996)

The rain must suffer my sorrow
My heart beats
Heavy
In my chest
I want to call out to you
Turn around!
You're only facing the wind.

I'm too far away from you
To hear me
You've already left
My life
I'll waste my breath
By yelling your name
You'll never hear me this way.

I can try to run
To catch you
But I know you'll
Move away
It's like I'm on a treadmill
You only get further
Away.

I guess I have
To leave you
I'll never get you
To see me
I catch myself not
Breathing
You walk out of my life.

I Am Me....(poem 06/19/08)

I am me
In so many ways I want to be
That someone else
That perfected Sandra Else

I don't have excuses
Me has some uses
But I see who I want to be
And I know what is stopping me

It's hard to break
My core and to take
Myself into my own hands
A challenge I strive to withstand

Constant effort and attention
Give my lesser qualities prevention
I slip up a lot
But thank you for blaming me not

I'll struggle, I'll bend
But I won't ever pretend
That I'm done
Working on this someone.

Untitled....(poem 2000)

This was written for my dad, who passed away 12/24/99

I miss you in the morning
I miss you at night
Gone without warning
God extinguished your light.

There is so much I never said
Afraid to be bold
Unresolved issues, unread
Leaving some memories cold.

I feel the fault is mine
Yet know I'm not to blame
I wish I'd had an early sign
My life will never be the same.

I'll have to make it up to me
If my eyes will ever see.

To Daddy....(poem 1999)

This was written for my dad, who passed away 12/24/99. I read it at his funeral and for my sister's wedding 05/08/04

I just want to say hello
Even though you are not here
I just want to say hello
In my heart, you will always be near.

I just want to say I love you
Each and every day
I just want to say I love you
In my own special way.

I just want to say I miss you
Your humor, your hope, your heart
I just want to say I miss you
Since you had to part.

I just want to say I understand
Why you had to leave me here
I just want to say I understand
And I no longer have any fear.

I just want to say I'll remember
All the times spent with you
I just want to say I'll remember
Your spirit in everything I do.

Daddy, I just want to say good-bye
With my heart filled up with love
I just want to say good-bye
I'll meet you again someday up above.

Healing....(poem 09/13/01)

This was also written after 9/11...I dreamed about my father who had passed away on 12/24/09

In all of the struggle
I see your face
Makes my sorrows
Feel pale in comparison
To the rest of the world.

I can feel for them all
All who lost
Their hearts
They will never forget
They will only strive forward.

All has changed
Nothing can ever be the same
Our guards are up
Our hearts are hardened
We can never breathe a sigh of relief.

Please let someone enter my heart
And tell me it's OK
I know someday I'll see you
And you can comfort me
But for now I still can see you.

The sorrow, the pain
An unbelievable pallor over all the world
Emotions spent
Souls broken
Hearts shattered.

Nothing will bring them back
Like nothing will bring you back
Retribution is our only comfort
The light of so many lives extinguished
Twin flames, now snuffed to darkness.

The falling, collapsing
Of a nation's spirit
Of a human's strength
To be rebuilt
Slowly and painfully.

As I watch you leave again
I can understand some of the fear, the pain
Bring us back to life
Help us all to cope
And begin a brighter tomorrow.

Justice....(poem 09/12/01)

This poem was written after 9/11

A deafening silence
Fills the air
Silent cries of anguish
Mark the common expression.

All lost
No one finding a place
Hearts are full of angst
Minds are full of vengeance.

There is no forgetting
No one can forgive
We'll see this through to the end
No one will go unrested.

It is a private time
In a very public place
When every being is involved
No one hiding can go unpunished.

All are fixed on revenge
None are seeking forgiveness
Justice will be dealt
And no mercy will be granted.

The Creature....(poem 1991)

First, a disclaimer: this was my very first poem, in 7th grade! Please know I was reading a lot of John Saul in those days...I also didn't keep the rhyming scheme intact throughout...and this has been edited slightly from its original version!

The rain pours down,
With a painfully pelting sound,
As I sit alone at my window,
Watching the storm roll by.

Suddenly comes the thunder,
That shatters the sound of rain,
Blindingly comes the lighning,
That slashes its light of pain.

Rap, rap, slowly on the door I hear,
Penetrating my vulnerable soul,
Rap, rap, it comes again, I hear,
Making me cringe and my eyes roll.

Slowly I stand, knees shaking,
And I shuffle to the door,
Rap, rap, it comes again,
And I feel my heart sink to the floor.

Slowly I open the creaking door,
Coming face to face with a creature,
Who has green sparking lights for eyes,
And horrid indistinguishable features.

His limp hair hangs past his shoulders,
His chest heaves with every breath,
He lets out a single moan colder,
Than the rain that pours.

With a muffled cry I turn,
Trying to close the door,
But the creature who threatens,
Only steps inside and roars.

I run my fastest to my room,
Trying to escape this horror,
This horror that chases me, unending terror,
And I slam against the wall.

The creature, he pins me tightly,
Against the hard stone wall,
Then crashes me to the concrete,
And I sink into darkness - forever,
Forever more.

Touched by Grace....(poem 07/28/10)

I’ve been touched by the hands of grace
Blessing me with your love

I never believed I deserved
Love as lasting and pure as ours

I played it off as inconsequential
To ever fall over my head

Fate called my bluff
By sending you my way

I’ve grown accustomed to our life
To seeing your face each morning

Lying in sleep beside you
Knowing you’re there to adore me

Your face is etched on my eyes
Your touch lingers on my skin

I feel you in our daughter
I sense you in the growing life inside me

You make me whole
Your spirit binding to mine

I pray I never take for granted
The magic that is our love

May I never forget to tell you
The dreams you fill in my heart

I’ve been touched by the hands of grace
Blessing me with your love

Remembering....(song 2009)

Painted childhood memories
On my brain
Feel so near to the past
Yet never the same.

A touch, a smell
A feel in the air
Takes me back
Returning with care.

I can't help remembering
The memories are too clear
They take me back to another place
I can't get to from here.

Some days I've forgotten
Looking only ahead
Until I get the familiar pang
Of days passed by and spent.

I can't help remembering
The memories are too clear
They take me back to another place
I can't get to from here.

Turn the time and care for today
Keeping close the moments passed away.

I can't help remembering
The memories are too clear
They take me back to another place
I can't get to from here.

Your Song...(poem 12/08/09)

(written for our baby that we lost at 7 weeks into the pregnancy)

It creeps up
Out of nowhere
Like a game of hide and seek
I close my eyes
To the sorrow
Hot flood of pain, I weep

Memories
Of what never was
What never will be with you
They cloud my mind
With what I want
But never will finally do

Even if
We add another
Love that next comes along
I will always
Think of you
And the beauty of your song.

Loss....(poem 12/07/09)

(written for our baby that we lost at 7 weeks into the pregnancy)

I've lost my job
To keep you safe
To hold you inside.

I've seen your face
Each time I've felt
Each time I've cried.

I never knew
This loss could feel
So devastating to abide.

Emptiness fills me
You were taken away
Like someone had lied.

I'm sorry - so sorry
I couldn't defend you
And by God's will, you died.

Day by Day....(poem 10/29/09)

(written for our baby that we lost at 7 weeks into the pregnancy)

In my mind
I already love you
In my heart
You already have a place
In my dreams
I can see your angel face

It’s you and me
Taking it day by day

Hold my peace
Keep you safe and healthy
Hold my cheer
As you grow and change
Hold my love
Just a simple rearrange

It’s you and me
Taking it day by day

So long to go
But so precious the time
Make the most
Until you’re really mine

It’s you and me
Taking it day by day

The Mother-Daughter Bond of Love....(poem 06/24/05)

Mothers and daughters share a bond
That never can be broken
Through trials, tribulations, and tears
A mother’s love holds strong, unspoken.

From mother-daughter banquettes
To shopping at the mall
Time spent between a mother and daughter
Is the best time spent, of all.

Memory scented kitchens
Aromas of hand crafted cookies and pies
Fill a daughter’s home and heart
With snapshots of times gone by.

Though daughters grow and move on
Some having daughters of their own
They hold one person close to their heart
The Mother, whose love builds a home.

The Bond of Sisterhood....(poem 06/24/05)

The relationship between sisters
Starts as a budding promise
It grows and stretches and strengthens
Into a bond that no one can miss.

Through years of bus rides and weekends
Together, sisters experience living
From struggles to late night girl talks
Their best times are when they’re giving.

Little sisters look up to their elder
Wiser, more refined other half
Always hoping and yearning
To someday have that same class.

Growing up together
Sharing memories made as one
Sisters know and understand
That a better friend, there is none.

We Knew Better....(song 09/21/09)

CHORUS:
Nobody believed in us
Our forever would be cut to an end
But we knew better
We knew better than them

It was a whirlwind romance
An at first sight kind of love
We knew it from the start
We held each other’s hearts
And we fell

Not one year later we tied the knot
Promising ourselves to each other
We knew that it was right
We held each other tight
And we jumped

CHORUS:
Nobody believed in us
Our forever would be cut to an end
But we knew better
We knew better than them

CHORUS:
Nobody believed in us
Our forever would be cut to an end
But we knew better
We knew better than them

Now 10 years have gone by
We burst every time we look in her eyes
The product of our love
Sent straight from God above
And we still hold strong

CHORUS:
Nobody believed in us
Our forever would be cut to an end
But we knew better
We knew better than them

Yeah we knew better
Better than any one of them

Stand....(song 08/21/09)

Sometimes
When I’m lying here
There’s silence all around me
And that’s what I fear

I don’t know
What you did
To me

CHORUS:
But I will stand
I’ll lay down my tears
I’ll search for something
That will make it all clear
I will stand

Looking
Back to a time
When our love seemed forever
And you were mine

Let go
That’s what I tell
Myself

CHORUS:
So I will stand
I’ll lay down my tears
I’ll search for something
That will make it all clear
I will stand

I will stand
I will stand

BRIDGE:
And if you cross my way while I am down
I will speak to you without a sound

CHORUS (key change):
I will stand
I’ll lay down my tears
I’ll search for something
That will make it all clear
I will stand

I will stand
I will stand

Stand on my own

Above My Dreams....(song 10/07/09)

Every day I try struggle through
Across time to you
Memories washing all around me
Don’t ever set me free
Feels like yesterday
I held you, saw your smiling face

I followed blindly and just failed to see
You don’t belong to me
I counted on forever to last
Forever came too fast
I can’t find you now
I turn my face up to the clouds

CHORUS:
And with a soft sweet voice
You caress me
And with a touch of love
You hold me near
When I find too much
In the way of who I want to be
You lift me
Above my dreams

Living in my heart, hold onto you
That’s what I have to do
See your light in every place I look
Reclaiming what you took
I’ll grow beyond the pain
And I will never be the same

CHORUS:
And with a soft sweet voice
You caress me
And with a touch of love
You hold me near
When I find too much
In the way of who I want to be
You lift me
Above my dreams

And when we meet again
It will be like you never left

CHORUS:
And with a soft sweet voice
You caress me
And with a touch of love
You hold me near
When I find too much
In the way of who I want to be
You lift me
Above my dreams

About the author is....

I have been writing since I was in kindergarten. My first "book" was written in elementary school and, along with the rest of my classmates' endeavors, was put in the library where other students could actually check it out. For the "about me" section at the end, I started it with: "About the author is Sandy Roberson." :)

I started to write poetry when I was in 7th grade, as a result of copying my best friends, Stacie and Shannon. What I discovered was that it was very therapeutic and relaxing to me. Since then, all throughout my remaining school years and still today, I write when I'm especially anxious, upset, or excited. Being a fairly impatient person (my husband may argue the "fairly" part), I have found short poetry holds my attention best...I would love to write a novel but have no idea what to write about and have not the patience and dedication to do so!

My dream in life at this moment is to freelance writing greeting cards and songs, allowing my creative identity to flourish, while freeing me to spend more time enjoying my two beautiful girls, Cassidy Alice (6) and Emma Kathryn (8 months).

I will start my writing blog with a couple of the more recent songs and poems I have written, because that is what I have right on hand here to post. Over time, I will share my other work from throughout the years. I have done pretty well at saving it all, but it will take me some time to get it all into the e-world!

I hope whoever reads this, if anyone, will enjoy what I've created!
